Our Community: A Tapestry of History and Hope
Kishindo's Commitment to Philippolis
Kishindo is more than just a wildlife reserve; it’s an integral part of the vibrant community of Philippolis. Our commitment to the local people extends far beyond tourism and conservation. We believe in empowering the community, preserving its rich heritage, and addressing its needs.

A History of Resilience
Philippolis, a historical farming town steeped in tradition, has witnessed a turbulent past. Born amidst the land disputes between the British, San, and Griqua peoples in the 1800s, it has endured hardships throughout its existence. Yet, despite its challenges, Philippolis has remained a beacon of resilience and hope.

A Legacy of Philanthropy
Philippolis has a remarkable legacy of philanthropy. Renowned figures like Sir Laurens van der Post and Emily Hobhouse have left an indelible mark on the town. Their dedication to social justice and community development continues to inspire us today.

Educational Empowerment
Education has always been a priority in Philippolis. The Hantam Community Education Trust, founded in a disused Colesberg farm building, has grown into a comprehensive educational institution, providing quality education to local children. The Trust’s focus on innovative teaching methods and youth development programs ensures that students are equipped with the skills they need to succeed. Some students from Hantam receive working experience at Kishindo, before finding permanent employment in the tourism industry.

Supporting Local Initiatives
Kishindo actively supports local initiatives that address the needs of the community. We collaborate with RADA, an NGO dedicated to empowering young girls through education and sanitary ware distribution. Regular food donations to the schools and the local soup kitchen are vital for the children . Our partnership with RADA has led to the establishment of Tshiya Daycare Centre, providing essential childcare services for working parents.

A Community of Kindness
The people of Philippolis are known for their kindness, compassion, and resilience. Despite facing numerous challenges, they continue to thrive and support one another. Kishindo is proud to be a part of this vibrant community.

By visiting Kishindo, you not only support wildlife conservation but also contribute to the local economy and community development
Let's work together to create a brighter future for Philippolis and its people.

Donations
Kishindo is not a non-profit organisation, we believe that conservation projects should aim to become self sufficient through sustainable eco-tourism, and the surrounding communities should be supported by such companies. This process takes decades and often lifetimes to archive, Kishindo is still a relatively young eco-tourism destination and therefore apricates donations for their conservation and community projects. Here is a list of community projects we would like to support:
School Water Storage Tanks
School Security
Equipment and Stationery.
